Steven Weems, tenor

Steven Weems is a native of Cleveland, Ohio where his musical journey began at the age of 4 while singing in his church adult choir. Mr. Weems is a tenor soloist and served as the interim conductor to the Grammy nominated Central State University Chorus. While in the chorus, he had the opportunity to travel throughout the United States, Germany, China, and received numerous awards from its then conductor and sat under the tutelage of Dr. William Henry
Caldwell.

Mr. Weems also participated in several Master Classes with Adrianne Danrich, Scott Piper, Chad Johnson, Shana Blake Hill, George Shirley, and Roderick Dixon.
In 2008, Steven was selected to represent Central State University in the inaugural performance of The 105 Voices of History National Historically Black College and University (HBCU) Choir at the Kennedy Center.

In 2009, Weems began singing as a chorus member of The Dayton Opera and was the Chorus Master for the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company’s In the Spirit of Concert. In 2011, he won 2nd place at the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Vocal Competition in the Ohio Advanced Men’s Division and was also afforded the opportunity to study in Salzburg, Austria with the Miami University Frost School of Music with Mary Schiller and Clifford Billions as his teachers.

Mr. Weems began singing with The Cleveland Orchestra Chorus in 2013 and made his solo debut with The Cleveland Orchestra in 2014. He is currently serving as the Choral and Media Director under the leadership of his mother who is Minister of Music at The Philippi Missionary Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio.
